Back to Basics: 10 Wardrobe Staples

Hey guys, this week I'm going through my staple wardrobe.

Staple items are the garments I recommend you hold onto when clearing out your wardrobe. For me, they are clothes or jewellery that you spend a bit more money on and that are good quality (this is key). These items will bring you into Spring/Summer as well as Autumn/Winter and can be mixed and matched to give you multiple looks.

Most of my wardrobe is made up of basic staple garments, so throughout the year, I incorporate what’s on trend at the time. Some of these items are old and new. These items can be worn casual or dressed up all depending on how you accessorise. I have added some links below so you recreate most of these pieces.

1. A Leather Jacket
A leather jacket is a huge must! I think you would all agree? A leather jacket can fit all occasions. I have two, a black and a brown, which I get great wear out of. The black one is from Zara €120 and the Brown one is from Pull and Bear €100. Both jackets are amazing quality and super soft! I found a fab one in Zara which you can check out here!

2. A Good Coat
A  dressy coat can be worn in many ways, if you have a special occasion or if its too cold for that leather jacket (we do live in Ireland after all). Creams, black and grey are all good colours as they will go with everything. My coat below is from Mango €140 but this black double breasted coat from Marks and Spencers is just as fab!

3. Jeans
Jeans are definitely something I live in all the time, to work or even on a night out. A high waisted black skinny jean and a high waisted denim mom jean are my two essentials. My favourite black jeans are from Only for €49.95 and my blue denim jeans are BDG jeans from urban outfitters €55. Now this one really depends on your style but for me a leather trouser is making it’s way into my wardrobe essentials. Check out these mom jeans from Urban Outfitters and these skinny jeans from Only.

4. Shirts
Anyone who knows me knows I love a good shirt! The deconstructed shirt is a big trend this spring/summer but for me personally, I don’t think it is my style, I like a classic shirt! Colours like grey, black and white are very handy to have as they will team up with most things. All my shirts are from Zara and range in price from €30 to €40. Pick up a classic white shirt from Zara here or get this casual grey shirt from Stradivarius here.

5. Little Black Dress
A little black number is always perfect to have, keep it simple! One you can wear with all of your basics. Mine is a €20 bargain from Bershka and is fantastic quality, I have it for about three years now and it’s still looking fresh. This bardot style LBD from River Island is also ideal.

6. T-shirts
Light tee shirt and loose tank tops are always handy to have in the drawer. These don’t have to be expensive at all, you can wear them on their own or with a shirt, all depending on the occasion. Mine are the basics tees and cost around €10 to €15 but you will find your own easily in shops like Penneys, Oasis or Bershka.

7. Shoes
A pair of boots, heels, and runners are essentials. Pick something that will go will everything, and that are super comfortable! My black boots are from River Island at €60runners are from Nike at €73 and my heels are from office at €60. I love these black patent heels from Office.

8. A handbag
A solid handbag, I always spend the cash on this item because bags are timeless. At the moment a backpack would be my go to. It’s so easy to wear and it keeps your arms and hands-free! My one is from Nine West but if you really want to treat yourself, check out this one from Armani Jeans.

9. Jewellery
Good quality jewellery! I’m a big lover for silver but if you are a gold person that’s fine too. A ring, bracelet, necklace and watch of your choice, these items are for life.

I have collected good quality pieces over time but wear them practically ever day. The Claddagh ring was a gift and cost about €180, my bracelet is from Links London and costs about €220, my necklace was bought on holidays for about €36 and my watch is a Daniel Wellington for €175.

If you want to start your own collection, check out these fab pieces from the Irish StoreEtsyLinks of LondonDaniel Wellington and Chupi.

10. Sunglasses
And finally, to complete your staple wardrobe, a pair of sunnies (for when that tiny bit of sun shows its face). You can never go wrong with Ray Bans.
